MontaukMonster

The carcass of an unknown beast washed up on a beach in Montauk on New York’s Long Island.  The animal looks like a "bloated, hairless dog, except that it’s got an eagle-like beak, a prominent brow ridge and a curiously elongated front paw."

Speculation has been running wild ever since New York’s gossip blog Gawker published the photo under the title: "Good Luck With Your Hell Demons."  Some thought it may be an unknown marine mammal similar to a manatee, others think it’s a sea turtle missing its shell.  Of course, conspiracy theorists believe this is just a Photoshop trick or an experiment from the government animal research facility just offshore.

New York magazine found a witness.  "I saw the monster," said a waiter at a nearby restaurant. "I just came walking down the beach and everyone was looking at it. No one knew what it was. It kind of looked like a dog, but it had this crazy-looking beak. I mean, I would freak out if something like that popped up next to me in the water."

Of course, no one knows where the monster is now.  It’s no longer at the beach where it was found.  "They say an old guy came and carted it away," said a witness to New York magazine.  "He said, ‘I’m going to mount it on my wall.’"
