Steven LeClair of Vermont made perhaps the biggest mistake of his life when he threw away a $650,000 winning lottery ticket.
LeClair received the ticket for the Christmas Eve Tri-State Megabucks drawing as a gift from his mother. But the ticket was hidden in a gift bag, and LeClair threw out the bag, not knowing the ticket was inside.
LeClair’s wife found out two days later that the only winning Megabucks ticket had been sold at a nearby market. So LeClair went through his trash and managed to find the winning ticket. The couple took the single payout and are now a half million dollars richer.
