Nick Wirsching, a 22-year-old West Chicago man, climbed the 8,436 stairs to the top of the Sears Tower four times in one day!  This amazing feat set a record for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, which hosts the climb as part of its annual "Go Vertical Chicago" cancer research fundraiser.

"It’s an extreme event," said Foundation directory Katie Levine.  "But he wasn’t out of breath, he wasn’t winded."

Wirsching is an extreme sports lover who also has jumped into icy Lake Michigan with a polar bear club.  He said that after climbing the 103 floors the first time, he decided to keep on going.  "I climbed to the top and thought, ‘You know, really, I’ve got nothing else to do," said Wirsching.  He took the elevator down after each climb.

Amazingly, Wirsching performed all four climbs wearing bright yellow Crocs.
